Something is coming soon. I am so excited and pumped. I have been working on some designs for Weddings, Brides and Renaissance Faires! I have listened to you and am boldly going where I am sent (or suggested) by you! I am so dag-gum excited. How about You?
What do you think it will look like, any clues yet or ideas from those of you who suggested?
I am working out some details, and planning, and yes waiting until it is just right!
You will be able to see it on my Website soon! you can see it on www.nikeebottalico.com. I have a blog on my website too, so hang out there to get sneak peeks also. I will always come to WordPress first (♥), as I have been around here the longest… but Alas, I have to announce on my Website…too so… do visit! I will announce there and on Instagram. I hope you will love it. Tell me in the comments what you think is coming~~
I will always be looking for Etsy Talent to shout-out here on WordPress so I am always gonna be here to show you the outstanding talent on Etsy! Send me an email (convo) over at Etsy or on my Website and I will get back to you about a feature! WordPress Collects emails but I do not gather those since there is not an opt in on here (giving me permission to email you).
Wow, it is December 13, 2017! Are you ready for the Holidays? Have you bought all your Christmas presents! Are you a person who waits until the last minute to buy your gifts?
I have only purchased 1 present! Oh, I have waited until the last minute and I am pretty sure I am not alone! Have you been too busy to go shopping or you do not like crowds?
I used to buy Christmas throughout the year but I have fallen off the wagon for sure. The 1 gift I have I bought during the Summer months. Nothing else…
Have I waited too long to order online? No! Plus, I do like to support my handmade Makers on Etsy. You can find things that are ready to ship items. Also, many Handmade sellers on Etsy that I have not showcased here on the Blog do have completed items that they can gift wrap for you and you can add expedited shipping as an upgrade. It is getting close as United States Postal Service is BUSY. If you take that into consideration for gift giving then, go for it. Buy something for your loved ones that are made with lots of love and handcrafted! I cannot tell you enough that it is good to support a local seller within the USA, or if you are in Europe to support your sellers there!
I have 3 Etsy Sellers this week who are all members of ArtisanIndie which is a wonderful Business Coaching Community “…where handmade, local business is celebrated and nurtured.” Do click on the link and see what it is all about. The owner of the Company is Sarah Sewell and her Experts who are a dream to learn from!
I queried the sellers if they were last minute shoppers themselves and if they have any ready to ship items in their Etsy shops for all those last minute shoppers. Now, they do have ready to ship gifts, (YAY!) but get on it as time is ticking and the United States Postal Service is super-duper Busy! So if you click on a link, like it buy it right away, and hopefully, the post-person can get it to you on time. Some of you may know the old Postal slogan, “through rain, sleet, and snow, etc, etc…” (I forgot I had to look up their Motto): “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” While the Postal Service has no official motto, the popularbelief that it does is a tribute to America’s postal workers.” That is their Motto, however, there is so much more mail nowadays with online shopping than when this motto came into play.
My first Ety Seller for this week is Sheila Ryan of Babymoon. I have blogged about Sheila before (sometime last year). I am constantly amazed by her spirit and energy as she is a business owner, a wife and has 9 children! I cannot imagine how much she has on her plate and I love her creative soul! I have seen an evolution in her creativity! It is really cool to watch. I would love to get to know Sheila better and she only lives a few hours away from me… maybe someday we can have a coffee together!
Sheila is like many of us who are creatives and she does not have her own Christmas list bought and completed! However, Sheila does have some last minute gift ideas for you to check out and purchase! I have listed two here for those of you who have waited (like me!).
Sheila named her shop Babymoon since she sees a new addition as “…a babymoon [which] is that sweet time when a mother and family welcome the newest little…” baby into their home. “It is a time of gentleness, reflection, love, and peace…” Sheila sees a Babymoon “…as the qualities, she strives to incorporate in all of her products.” The time a mom has with her “…newborn is so very precious and short, but so incredibly powerful in the life and growth of the new mother.” Sheila believes that by supporting “…new moms is one of her dear passions in real life, and she has made bonds and has dear friends because of her former work with the la leche league and that will last forever.”
Sheila makes any number of accessories from monogrammed luggage tags, pen/pencil holders, Halloween/dress-up masks, fingerless gloves, fun planner items, travel cases, personalized Christmas ornaments, and allergy tags. Most if not all of Sheila’s items can be personalized! She is an amazing small business owner and she adds new collections of her work frequently. Listed above are a couple of ready to ship items! Now onto my next Etsy Seller!
Another shop is SirWinslowsZoo, owner, is Meg McGhee. I asked her if she has anything that is ready to ship and she does! Again, my caveat is to order now, and order fast! Don’t wait until the last second when you have to depend on the USPS (United States Postal Service).
Meg has really precious items. She makes stuffed animals, pillows, fish, sharks, and Gnomes (a few other items too)! Her items are adorable, whimsical and unique. I smile looking at her items as they make me happy to see them!
These shark cases, as well as the Gnome pillows, just make me smile as Meg’s products are magical to me and oh so, sweet! Who would not want a shark to keep up with your pencils, your sunglasses or any small item you need for the day! I find them to be great fun and may have to get my own!
Meg named her shop after a fictional character named Sir Winslow Smith who was a professor of zoology at Oxford University. He traveled around studying Tigers, plants and other things of interest. Sir Winslow has been a part of Meg’s life for a long time! Be sure to read her about page as her story and the way she has developed her products for you, is awe-inspiring!
You can also see Meg’s website at SirWinslowZoo and see more of her products and her own blog. She has amazing products that you and your child will love! Meg is also a member of ArtisanIndie’s Community.
Ever since I joined Flourish @ArtisanIndie I have been able to get to know Jacqueline McLaughlin of BlueLotusDesignsShop She is delightful and a person I wish I lived closer as she is funny. I could see us being friends (more than online).
She is very active in Artisan Indie and I have learned a lot from her questions of the group. I also love her products! She makes very creative items that her customers love! She also has a shop that offers a number of items for your perusing and shopping. You will love her offerings.
Jacqueline McLaughlin shop BlueLotusDesignsShop offers mobiles with lights (ingenious!) and had jewelry, crystals, crystal necklaces, and earrings. She also offers Crystal crowns that are so boho chic — meaning a cross between Bohemian and hippie influences! I personally adore her product and have purchased some stones from her to add to my own supplies. Jacqueline also makes Crowns, Jewelry and many other items. Do check out her items!

The three women in this blog are all successful members of “Flourish” which is now becoming ArtisanIndie. The people who have all used the training to better their businesses from Sarah Sewells Community are successful in many ways! I am a member too, I learn more and more each day. I love to give Sarah a shout-out as the community is great and will assist anyone with their small business to grow.
As with each blog, I thank you for reading, clicking like, commenting and sharing for all the beautiful handmade sellers! I so appreciate you coming! I want to remind you that I am an affiliate blogger for Etsy.com and I receive a very small fee if an item sells from clicks on my blog. It is not why I support handmade sellers, I am one myself. I support them as I believe it is good to purchase from small businesses and to purchase handmade items made with loving hands.

I asked a couple of people who are artists “what they are doing to get ready for Christmas” and of course, they are in the throes of creating for the Holidays, with Volunteerism, getting ready for Cooking and having family time! Ah, the balance of being an artist and coming up for air to breathe and spend time with family and friends!
These artists will warm your heart. You can find some excellent and festive gifts for your loved ones or just for yourself! Look at their shops and join their Facebook Business pages for offers right on Facebook!
I ask you, what are you doing to get ready for the Holiday Season? There are so many different holidays during November through January. It is not just about Christmas, I am focusing on Christmas, but I am very cognizant that there are many different Holidays during this time of year. I celebrate with you, whatever you celebrate, and am so happy you are here visiting my blog! Leave a like, a heart or a comment, thanks!
To lead I am going to start with a favorite artist friend of mine MJ –Mary Jane Chadbourne! I actually swoon over her work! I am in love with her art and her processes! This is one of Mary Jane’s larger pieces:
This season Mary Jane (who goes by MJ) has made a number of Santa’s Elves that she has been selling and I believe she has sold-out all of the Elves at this time. I loved her Elves and was not quick enough to purchase one of them!
Santa’s Elves 2017
Currently, MJ is working on some vintage style pieces and I cannot wait to see them! I will be in line this time to get one of her pieces of art!
MJ has been shown at the “Wonderland Gallery” in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is an acclaimed artist, as she has been shown in many other galleries in Las Vegas and Utah! She has also been featured in the book: The Art of Crayon: Draw, Color, Resist, Sculpt, Carve!which you can find on Amazon.
MJ is one busy person. MJ has been in numerous magazines including Stampington, Cloth, Paper Scissors and more. She experiences that push-pull of being an artist while doing other things like teaching classes in the Artful Gathering each year for the past few years. I adore her style and her art. She is a very precious person to get to know via the internet. I would love to know her in person too! She is graceful and really kind to share her talent as she does.
MJ is an instructor at the Artful Gathering, and at this time of year, she is also working on a class (her class along with all the other makers are extremely hush-hush until they are revealed!). MJ has a wonderful studio at the back of her property where the magic happens! I have taken one of MJ’s classes and they are so good! MJ stated, that she has taught five classes on Artful Gathering which have all had great success and next to creating art, teaching is the love of her life! You really should look into a class by her as you will learn so much about creating! You can also purchase a DVD if you cannot take the class in “real time” and with the DVD you can take the class at a later date! Like I said, I took a class but I also purchased a DVD to go back to over and over for a refresher as the class was so full of ideas and techniques.
Please visit MJ’s Website to see the full array of her work, as it is outstanding! She is a wonderful mixed media artist who is able to work in many mediums very successfully! I once saw in a magazine or a book that MJ Chadbourne made a very large mixed media piece that she donated to charity. MJ and her husband (who is also very talented, he is a woodworker) work together making items for charitable purposes to give back.
MJ and her husband have donated art projects for various fundraisers around the Las Vegas valley. One of the charities they have donated to is to ALS to help families and persons experiencing ALS. The Chadbourne’s both always believe in giving back!

Next, is Sherry Westfall Matthews of Dalaimomma on Etsy is a fantastic and celebrated artist in her own right and I am so enamored with her work. She is another artist I admire tremendously. I would love to grow into the kind of artist that Sherry is. In Sherry’s bio, it states that “Sherry Westfall Matthews is a self-taught Southern artist who lives and creates in Alabama with the support of her two kids, three dogs, and a cat.” Sherry believes wholeheartedly that creating art keeps people young at heart by through looking for the magic of inspiration in the world and “…continuing to grow by experimenting with new art techniques and products.”
Sherry fully supports and is an ambassador for Retro Cafe Art (which I support and buy lots of items from too).Sherry is a long-time loyal Retro Cafe Art Gallery customer (she says that’s where the Art Supply Fairy lives and the art Fairy is Kristin Hubick!). You will find that Sherry will use items from Retro Cafe Art to assist in her creative processes. She also creates her own art by sculpting items, using found items and I think she can make things just from the air if she wanted!
Sherry is also an ambassador for RELICS & ARTIFACTS®. If you read Sandra Everstson’s Blog and shout out to Sherry: Sandra Evertson states that she is overjoyed to introduce you to the RELICS & ARTIFACTS® Brand Ambassadors. This is our hand-picked team of designers created to spread the beauty and potential of the RELICS & ARTIFACTS® line of craft products: Sherry Westfall Matthews believes imagination is much like a muscle…the more you create, the stronger your inspiration becomes!” Also, Sherry being self-taught leads her to want to share her trial and error wins (and losses).
Right now Sherry and her daughter are working with Toys for Tots for the holiday season. They have a small group of volunteers (approximately 15) who are doing everything in their power to help 1800 children this year! Wow, that is a lot of kids in need. This small group of volunteers take the applications, help raise funds for the toys and fill the bags of toys. It is a completely hands and hearts for this organization. The team for Toys for Tots has a big giveaway next weekend so they are insanely busy. Sherry is looking forward to getting back to her art, however, the time spent giving and helping area children who have less is very rewarding. Sherry and her daughter have been volunteering for 3 years and it has become a tradition for her family to give back to her community. I admire what Sherry is doing while she is teaching & modeling for her daughter the same values.
I worked in the Social Work field for 22 years and worked with people and children who were at Risk of harm or who had experienced harm. I did a lot of Brown Santa’s, Toys for Tots, filling sacks and taking gifts to Foster children and giving back at Christmas time. It is a need and a lot of artists who are drawn to create but also drawn to give back in their own ways to their communities. Many artists donate their art to raise money for charities.
Well, as you can tell, I am a raving fan of both of the ladies I have featured today! I adore their art and the processes they go through to get the final product~
Last but not least, is my weekly shout out and gratitude for Artisan Indie and Sarah Sewell’s Community of Artisans. I am a raving fan of hers also! She has helped me understand the business side of my art. She is helping many artists understand how to have a business by doing what you love. Sarah is a “Postive Thinker,” and believes in advocating for the small individual businesses. Sarah started her business to help others! She has had other very successful businesses and she chose to open a business that is fruitful but also gives back. She has wonderful goals to support Artisans, and believes in people! I mention her in all my blogs out of gratitude for what she has given to me as far as training, learning, friendship, and a wonderful community of people that I belong to! Check out Artisan Indie! On the link to Artisan Indie, right on the front page she offers a Boot Camp for new Etsy Sellers! Right there for free! Do join us in this community, as you will not regret it! One day she will have her own sellers site for Artisans.
Well, we are the end of this week’s blog, I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing it for you! I will be back next Wednesday featuring more handmade sellers and artisans in their own right. I will try to feature “Content-based business owners” who are Experts in their fields such as SEO, Finding your Target Customer, Writing Exciting Copy and on and one. The Content-based Experts are a part of Artisan Indie. I will try to add one Expert each week along with the artisans I showcase each if they aren’t too, too, busy! If not I will be featuring them in the coming new year (2018)!
Please share the blog on your own social media as these Artisans are worthy of being seen for their gifts! Remember, I am an affiliate Blogger for Etsy.com and the links I provide if you purchase, I receive a small fee, but that is not why I showcase any of the sellers I showcase, I do it as I believe in them and their art!
Love & Light to you, and thank you for reading!

Objectsandoddities is my store on Etsy and I love this time of year getting ready for the gift giving season. I also make small art boxes that are really great for Halloween and Christmastime. Some years I also make Holiday Ornaments for the tree. Please not only check out my shop but the Creatives I have highlighted for your shopping needs!
Kim says that “I love all of the fall holidays.” My favorite would have to be Halloween! “Thanksgiving is fun because of all the food and joy of cooking things we only eat once or twice a year. Our family is very small so it usually isn’t a big deal.” The only goals Kim is preparing my fall/winter candles she needs to have listed for sale by the first of August. She is usually tired of the Summer heat and the fall scents make her a little happier and calm for the Season to come.
Mary O’MalleyCountryCutieBagDolls looks at Fall as the beginning of the year. She loves Fall in the Northeast as all the leaves change colors. Also at the end of September, she and her husband fo on a vacation together. She loves Pumpkins, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.
Nadine Lorgeoux Jalem lives in Florida now. For Nadine’s shop on Etsy Shop Love2quilt and her tagline for her shop is Handmade Textiles Gifts & Home decor. She starts designing and creating for Fall and Halloween Decor items as early as July. She creates new items for Halloween and Fall home decor in July. For Christmas Decor items, Nadine starts designing for Christmas and creating Christmas items in August so she is able to get them listed on Etsy early enough for her customers.
This week she is creating and stitching Holidays/Christmas themed items, she may make some changes to what she is doing and make small gifts for any occasion to list in her shop to give more variation. She may find she needs to go to the supplies store and pick up new blades for her rotary cutting tool or get new ribbons. Nadine stated that “We have been living in different countries for a long time and now settle down in the States but traveling to France regularly to visit family.”
Joanna Bartoszewicz of Painted with Buttons Tagline is High-Quality Button Art and Giclee Art Prints. She makes beautiful art with Buttons and adorned with Swarovski Rhinestone Crystals. She gives you a range of prices for her Bespoke Art.
Joanna stated that she is Polish by birth. Many people from Poland find Autumn as a more of a solemn time of the year with the main holiday being All Saints Day when they honor their dead. I relate to people who look toward the Tradition of honoring those people who have come before us. Living in Texas and looking at the wonderful history of the Mexican people who celebrate Day of the Dead ofDía de Muertos (some call the Holiday Día de Los Muertos) and my own Irish Catholic background whose family would also look to All Souls Day and the deep abiding of those who came before us. I make small art that honors how I feel about Day of the Dead remembrances and celebrations.
Joanna also said that living in the United States, she and her family celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving Holidays. Joanna stated that Fall is her favorite time of the year, she loves the changing leaf colors, the cooler temperatures and the feelings she gets with Winter coming.
Joanna is a collector of vintage Buttons and now only has the shop Painted with Buttons but she and her husband own a Jewelry Supply shop on Etsy too called OnestopJewelrySupply.
Joanna’s story is like many Creative’s need to collect beautiful items. Her art came to life from the need to control the never stopping flow of vintage buttons, findings, and all things sparkly. Since Joanna was a little girl she has been collecting beads, buttons and old jewelry pieces. She fell in love with Czech beads and buttons. She needs to control some of her space being taken over by all the items. Out of that need grew a Supply Store and her art. Joanna said that when people purchase my button art, they don’t only receive a beautifully created art, but also a piece of history, as each of my art pieces contains several of gorgeous buttons from my personal collection. Each piece also includes Swarovski rhinestones that add beautiful sparkle and elegance to each piece. I love her Art and I know you will also! Be sure to click on the photograph which will take you to her shop!
Thank you so much for reading these crazy fast blogs. I am going to slow down a little as I need to make my own Autumn, Fall, Halloween and eeekkkk Christmas items. Are you making items, if so tell me what in the comments! I am really excited to get busy creating again.
I have been writing about Sellers on Etsy.com which is teaming with Creative people who make items with their own hands and their own designs! I have the unique experience collaboration with so many of these sellers by being a member of the Joyful Entrepreneur and Flourish. I am able to see so many other artists and creative business owners. I am honored to be among all these talented people!
I have been interviewing Creative Artists about how they get ready for the Autumn Season in preparation for Fall, Autumn, Halloween, and Thanksgiving (and really, the Christmas Season). There is a lot of work that goes into getting ready for the Holidays when you own your own business. Creative Artists usually are a “one person show,” designing and making the creations for you.
Amanda Hollis‘ shop SewBlondeStudio and her tagline is “Handmade things with a farmhouse style!” She loves making handmade farmhouse chic items that have a classy sophisticated, and modern rustic feel! She is living in Historic Tennessee. Amanda says “I am getting ready for the fall season, especially Thanksgiving, by thinking about what I love most about that holiday and time of year in general – family, togetherness, beautiful colors, and, of course, food!” Amanda finds getting together with family and the holiday season really assists her in designing and her inspiration for the Fall Signs she has in her shop. Personal tradition for her and family is to have a Traditional Family dinner at her parent’s home. When dinner is finished, she and her sisters scour the sales ads for any “must have sales.”

Carlin Donart lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Carlin’s shop LoveAcrossTheMiles. She is the owner and sole creative for her shop. Carlin Donart’s tagline for her shop is “Making long distance [relationships] happier, one step at a time. With all the news about the flooding in Louisiana, we wish her well as well as all the Louisianians well and really good positive thoughts for the safety of people affected by the flooding.
Carlin is not only a Creative but she is also an Engineer (immediately my social work “hat” goes on… Carlin is able to use the right and left sides of her brain… Oh my, she has really balanced brain function, I have a little brain envy [not in a negative way] as I know she is much more organized than my spazzy creative brain).
Carlin’s shop is geared toward persons who are involved in long distance relationships. You are able to tell Carlin has thought hard about “long distance relationships.” She notes that the definition for her in long distance is best friends who attend different colleges or universities or best friends who graduate college and go off to first jobs that are across the country, to our nation’s military, one deployed and the other in the US or young couples separated by a distance in miles only for the time being. Carlin has been able to make the leap and connection that many businesses do not make early on, that you need to make an experience between yourself (the creative) and your buyer or customer. Carlin has tapped into that notion very well.
Carlin believes in having her seasonal items up early in the year for her shop. She had her significant other (boyfriend) in mind when she made some of her items. “The fall-themed wooden sign is my favorite piece of decor I have, and I can’t wait for the weather to cool down to hang it up!” Currently, Carlin is working on a Thanksgiving sign and a Halloween sign, so she is focusing on the general season coming up. Carlin enjoys Fall for football season, time with her family and friends, NFL games and her younger siblings. Carlin’s younger siblings will often paint with her while she visits home.
Marybeth Mullen of Beastiebabies is Ready for Pumpkin Seasons — just look at this Baby Bib with Pumpkins all over it! It gives Joy just looking at it!
Marybeth Mullen lives in a historic town Oregon, Ohio and the town is near Lake Erie. Marybeth says that her favorite time of year is the fall. Marybeth says that her items are “unique and made with plenty of love.” She actually begins to get ready for Fall in July (like many of the supply stores will begin to show Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving even Christmas items in July)! As buyers, many of us want to be ready for the “best Season of the year so it is great these sellers are ready for you! She says “hooray,” for Fall!” Marybeth will have items available for you for the upcoming season and she welcomes custom items.
Marybeth says that she loves picking out all the fabrics for Fall and loves making bibs for babies and little girl skirts. She designs new bibs for Halloween, Fall Harvest and a designs a new Thanksgivings skirt each year. Marybeth has customers who return each year to purchase the “new annual designed skirt,” for their girls. Marybeth will also complete custom children’s clothing. Do go to her shop and send her an Etsy Conversation.
Fall is also the time of year when Marybeth has her traditional vacation “up north.” She meets with good friends, goes shopping, eats good food and enjoys plenty of fun kayaking on the river. Marybeth also enjoys fishing with friends. She says that the fall colors are the best this time of year and is her favorite. Fall colors are her favorites and she leaves the colors up year round. It does not matter to Marybeth that they are pumpkins and leaves. She loves them! Marybeth also loves to get new fabrics! I
It was wonderful to get know to each of these sellers more personally. We all are in a group together and I love knowing them better than before.

Cutest Little Pumpkin in the Patch
My next Creative Ashley Kajewski ofOLilMissSparklesO and she has another item that is great for a dress-up party or perfect for Halloween. This item is based off of the Grimms Fairytale “Rapunzel” that was first published in 1812. A lot of little girls would love this costume (or any in her shop). I remember when my daughter was young she wanted to live in her tutus or dress-up clothes for everyday wear. Let Ashley be your creative director for your child’s fall dress up wear, Halloween or even a Renaissance Faire. The Texas Renaissance Festival runs from October 8, 2016- November 27, 2016. Costumes from Etsy Sellers will be perfect for you and for you family! This is Ashley’s Handmade Crocheted and sewn Rapunzel Tutu Dress.
My next handcrafted designer is Ashley Roberts of AshleyRCreations. She lives in Oklahoma with her family. Ashley creates custom reclaimed wood home decor & nursery decor.
Ashley gets ready for the Fall holidays by buying everything pumpkin! She gets in the “Fall frame of mind” by getting Pumpkins~Here we are “in mid-August and she has already baked pumpkin bread and cookies with her oldest son.” She also loves the aromas of pumpkins or Fall scented candles while she is creating her products. Ashley believes the aromas help her productivity and keeps her Joyful while she works.

Ashley and her family have traditions for trick or treating and they all dress up. Ashley starts planing costumes in advance as she makes them herself for she, hubby and the two children. The first year they dressed up as characters from the Flintstones, Barney Rubble and Betty Rubble and Bam-Bam. Now. there is another baby the family is dressing up as the Ninja Turtles. Like most creatives Ashley has been creating most of her life.
For Thanksgiving the family is going on a family vacation to a new city. They really like to go to cities to take part and see all the AZA Zoos they can visit. That is a family Tradition the family is building. What are your Traditions around the Holidays?
Well, what is coming up next?
I will go into what I do for the Holidays and any of my Traditions. I do go visit my grandsons while they Trick of Treat and I love it so! Holiday times change as you are older as I want to celebrate with family-time with my adult kids as they are very grown up adults (which is great). I want them to have memories in their own homes with their families so I visit there. I will talk more soon. I have 3 or 4 more Creatives to celebrate in my blog very soon. Please share the blog to others who may be interested. Thanks ~
For my Blog Series, have reiterated the agreement I have already obtained prior to writing about the Creatives I feature for a blog, that they will share the blog post to all their own social media and that they will Comment & Like with the star icon or Heart with the Heart Icon at the top of the blog.
I have learned from a couple of people that commenting portion for the Blog may have been difficult to find. If you find it difficult please click what looks like a piece of paper to open up the blog or click on the Blog title — if they are unable to do this that they contact me in a private message and I will assist with more detailed instructions. I will see if this works or maybe I need to change the Template my blog…. I also want to note I also obtained each person’s permission to use their photographs in my blog and they understand that the blog could be shared in the blogosphere.
I have used a couple of pictures from Creative Commons & from Canva and I will note on every blog when I use internet photographs to give credit.
Post Script ~Oh and I always want to give a shout out to Sarah Sewell of The Joyful Entrepreneur who made a lot of this possible for me as I am able to focus on being joyful in my own work. I also know the gift of my own creative spirit, and to have a positive mindset! She is a fabulous Creative Coach. All my years of having an online presence she has been the best Creative, & business coach for me to have. Join the facebook group!
Just imagine becoming the way you used to be as a very young child, before you understood the meaning of any word, before opinions took over your mind. The real you is loving, joyful, and free. The real you is just like a flower, just like the wind, just like the ocean, just like the sun. Don Miguel Ruiz
Why do I support Etsy Sellers so MUCH? Well, I love the handmade seller. I am a handmade seller and want to support my cohorts (and I am an affiliate blogger, but still — eh). I used to be a Team Captain for an Etsy Team (loved it, had to give it up due to health issues). I also love the mantra or basic belief of supporting small businesses. There is just something to me, having something that is made by a someone. I know, I am helping a family directly, and for the most part I am helping a woman owned business (not always but for the most part).
I am showcasing Edis Lamps on Etsy. Panagiotis and Despina own Edi’s Lamps and are a husband and wife team who work from their home. As with many creative businesses who work from home there is a difficulty not working 24-7 and carving out that time that is work versus home life.
Despina answered the same questions posed to the participants of the last for the last 3 blogs.
Panagiotis and Despina, spend their lives and loves as a couple “in life and creation.” We run our Etsy shop together and we love it! I learned from the couple that running their business is really challenging as working from home draws a really “thin line” between your personal and working time.
The first thing they do in the morning is enjoy their breakfast! When they worked outside the home there was not enough time to take part in eating breakfast together so they have started a new family ritual. After breakfast, Despina sits in front of the computer to check e-mails, social media accounts and to update their Etsy shop. Panagiotis is responsible shipping, buying supplies, printings etc. After the nitty-gritty of the business tasks are complete, the design process comes into play. They sit together and discuss about new designs and products.
Being a Joyful Entrepreneur for Panagiotis and Despina is being able to do things they were not able to do before like “taking a five-minute break to just look at the sea view from our balcony…” (they live in Athens, Greece) listening to music they love and sing while working. (Oh me, oh my, I have hit my perfect interpretation of being Joyful!) Panagiotis and Despina are able to breathe and enjoy. It is not that they do not have busy times, they do! But they love everything they do!
Despina and Panagiotis are excited when creating new products that meet the goals of their shops and find ways to celebrate every little milestone they reach. The key to success for them is being open and ready to learn new things that they will develop through time.
The couple tries to stop everything at 8 p.m. at the latest and make plans to do something fun like a walk, see friends, family, or watch a movie.
Panagiotis and Despina’s daily schedule is about to change dramatically as in November of this year as they are expecting their first baby! While this could be an upcoming challenge for the couple they are staying positive. The couple is “fairly sure” that things work out in the best possible way! (So am I and I am excited for them!).
I appreciate all the participants for this short series. I will have new topics and other Etsy sellers/shop owners to showcase. I do that you give some love, check out, visit and buy from all the Creatives shop owners that I featured in the past Blog entries. Also, I hope you visit Panagiotis and Despina’s Shop named Edi’s Lamps and give them some love, plus purchase a fantastic light! I know that I am ordering one!
Oh and please be sure to visit Sarah Sewell at the Joyful Entrepreneur whose Coaching has inspired me to be Positive and to Seek in my journey!
Lots of love & hugs
p.s. I love this couple as my name is Nike the Greek Goddess of the Samorace (for reals!)
I really wanted to showcase a number of creative artists for this blog as they really inspire me! I asked four artists to tell me how they go about their days, from waking up, to what they do the first thing in the morning, to how they schedule in their work time, to getting ready for bed and do they have any nightly rituals. I will be able blog my “internal quota” once I hear back from these busy creatives!
You know how I love the Gulf of Mexico,on South Padre Island.
You know my love of flowers so you will always get a few pictures from my garden or my pond.
Since the women I am interviewing are are all creatives, (I am owner of Objectsandoddities) I want to know how they fit their work into their days. I can say from personal experience that we creatives tend to be creating in their minds all the time. I also asked another question what (many of them SAHM IE: Stay at home moms) the experience is running a small Etsy business, raising small children, not losing their sanity, most times being so busy running a one person shop all the while staying positive.
I am always so curious as to how my fellow creatives stay Joyful when having a growing small business. It is a goal for me to stay Joyful & Positive. I want to internalize this in my soul. I want to note that many of the blogs from today on, (until I tell you otherwise) will be Etsy sellers who belong (as well as myself) to The Joyful Entrepreneur. We learn from Sarah Sewell’s who is a “Business Coach for Creatives” and her mantra is to “Stay Positive” and experience Joy!” Sarah is a huge help and support for the handmade seller. I do not know how she does what she does. I am so happy to be a part of her wonderful group. Please check her site out or ask questions, I will steer you to her group!
My first creative I spoke with online is Catherine Norris, who owns the MemoryThreadCo. She really inspired me! She was the first to answer all my questions I posed to her. I really appreciate her getting with me, answering so honestly and quickly! I love her handmade art! This beautiful picture is out of her shop and I have her permission to use the picture.
I chose this beautiful item as it gave me joy to look at it! It is a child’s drawing carefully stitched to a handkerchief. What a treasure to have!
Catherine lives in the United Kingdom with her husband and their daughter in a very typical 3 bed semi (I needed to clarify what a 3 bed semi was, all you who read from other places get to laugh at me!!). I learned a 3 bed semi is a like a 3 Bedroom home in the United States. Catherine stated that she lives in a common area for young families. Catherine’s hubby gets up early in the morning for work. The first thing in the morning Catherine hears is her little girl’s voice calling “SUN’S UP!!!!” (who could not get Joy from that!). Catherine is not a morning person (I am not either… another similarity for a creative). Catherine must eat a good breakfast and have a “cuppa” to have a great day. I had to ask again what it was and it is a cuppa learning that telling me that her “cuppa” is tea and is essential!
Catherine walks her daughter to school, after she has about 6 hours for work. Typically, she responds to any Etsy enquiries, then she sews. Her “studio is in the is in the “box room,” and she has shelves up to the ceiling for her fabric.” Another ritual she has is listening to “BBC radio while she works and she loves a programme called Woman’s hour.” Catherine has a small garden and likes to cook wholesome food.
As with any small business owner, Catherine feels “quite rushed because I have this deadline of 3pm to get out of the house for the school run.” Once she returns home she spends times with her daughter, grabs her a “biscuit” (cookie is US), a glass of milk and they read a book together. Her daughter is 5 and “her reading is coming on so well.” She has dinner to cook, a child to get to bed and all the normal things one needs to do before bed.
Catherine told me that she is always positive as she loves what she does. This is a drawing below is that of a work in progress. It is a very romantic piece, with handwritten notes stitched on linen napkins for a wedding present to his bride. “There was one where he’d sketched a portrait of her, and one of them was her something blue. I loved making those. How can you not be positive with so much love around you.
Catherine says “That’s the thing, my work is all about love really.” Do give Catherine’s shop some love!
Next time I will showcase more Etsy sellers and some of my own work too! I need to wrap this up and make some jewelry!
